CBT Panic Attacks Treatment
CBT is effective in treating Panic Attacks
It is possible to treat panic attacks effectively and research has shown that self-help programs based on CBT are also efficient. (CBT = Cognitive Behavioral Therapy). CBT is a first choice treatment today of medical doctors and it can be used for mild as well as severe cases.
CBT panic attacks
To start avoiding places, circumstances or people or to always have a nagging fear or worry for the next attack are consequences of panic attacks that should not be taken lightly. It can lead to more of the same and a very limited behavior crippled by fear. But for the person that has panic attacks it should come as a comfort that there is help and it can be very effective to.
The standard treatment of today is SSRI medication (antidepressants) and CBT. Of course there are many therapies available but it is only CBT that has shown consistent and real results when it comes to treat panic attacks.
CBTs central idea is that it's the way we think that causes a panic attack or other emotional patterns. We need to change the way we think and much of the therapy is centered around exactly what we think in the situation and how it has into being like that. Once the thought pattern is established it can be scrutinized and changed.
Cognitive Behavior Therapy consist of two main parts: cognitive and behavior therapy.
Cognition means "thinking" and this targets the thinking processes. It tries to find out exactly what thoughts trigger the powerful emotions that you have in a panic attack. Harmful thinking patterns, false beliefs.
Behavior therapy helps with making the real changes in the real world. This is done by applying the new thinking in real actions.
This is done by exposing yourself to stressful situations, something you would normally avoid at any cost. Once exposed a few times to the situation or circumstance and with new thinking the brain can start using new patterns.
Unfortunately it can be very unwise to stick your head in the sand with these types of problems like panic attacks and phobias. To be proactive and take measure to help oneself is necessary. Often when untreated panic attacks worsen and can become general anxiety disorder which basically is fear most of the time.
The online programs can be a tremendous resource because they are actually very effective in treating not so severe cases. More and more people recognize the importance of getting fast treatment and there is really not any reason to "wait and see". Many years can pass without getting any better and there is effective treatment so why wait?
